depression children treatment

Have you noticed being treated differently after being labeled a psych patient?
After receiving treatment for severe depression, hospitalized and now on medications, I noticed I don't get treated objectively as I did before. My psychiatrist had warned me that this could happen once doctors can see that I'm being treated for depression. My doctor was right and it has happed yo me a couple of times. The words, " you are just tired and stressed" seems to be happening more and more. Being labeled as mentally ill is by far the most difficult thing to deal with. It's bad enough having depression, but beening treated like a child is even worst.
There is no question in my mind that while a person is hospitalized in a psychiatric unit they are not treated with the same care or respect that a person who is in the hospital for a non-psychiatric condition.
A psychiatric patient's complain won't be listened to and the medical staff knows that. Prisoners on death row have more rights than a psychiatric patient. A prisoner on death row gets one hour everyday to go outside. A psychiatric patient can be held in the hospital 24/7 indefinitely and not be permitted to go outside once.
As far as how a person with mental health problems is treated outside of the hospital depends upon the person you are dealing with. If a person doesn't know about your mental illness, I wouldn't tell them. For people who already know and are saying "you are just tired and stressed", you could simply ignore them or say "I was diagnosed with depression. My condition is more than just being tired and stressed. Please stop minimizing my health problem".
If you can, join a support group. It helps to have people to talk to who are going through the same things as you are.
