How to deal with the medicine Chantix?

Someone I know has been taking Chantix for the past 3 weeks. I didnt know about it until the beginning of week 4, which is just starting. After doing some heavy reading on the prescription drug, I learned a lot of nasty side effects from it and I am beginning to worry. The doctor prescribed the drug for a duration of 3 months, but should I tell the person to stop right now? What I'm worried about is that I've read a lot of reviews that say people experience nightmares and suicidal thoughts a few weeks (im guessing 4+) into the medication. They've also said that once the patient stops, there's a chance of horrible side effects (i.e. depression, suicidal thoughts). What should she do? Continue with the medicine, or stop now? And if she chooses to stop and experiences such side effects, what should she do to deal with them? Please help; this person is very dear to me.

Thank you.

My husband's friend took Chantix for a while. And I DO NOT recommend it to anyone. Tell her to stop take it immediately! Not only the friend suffer from terrible terrible nightmare- he saw his kids tied up to a tree and someone is cutting her up with chainsaw - yeww--- it's like a nightmare from the movie Elm street....... He said it was extrmely cruel and vivid. it's like you dream about your worst fear. On top of that, he now have permanent hearing loss on one ear. I cannot believe Chantix is widely advertised.
You know, when it comes to your friend, I would not recommend anyone to take Chantix, but it's also proven to be helpful to quit smoking. I would take to her about your research for sure, and maybe you can let her choose? If she has taken the medicine for a while and haven't had major side effects, maybe she is one of those people who has successful Chantix experience? Either way it's risky business to take medicine known for a really bad side effects. She might have bad experience if she takes them for a long time. Information is very important, but it's altermately her decision. it's her body. But it's very nice of you to concern about her and do reserach for her. You should definitely talk to her about the medicine. She is lucky to have a friend like you. Tell her I said Good luck with quitting.
