great motivation secrets of great leaders

The Secret of Recession Proof Sales Team Motivation

We've ridden the crest of an economic wave for a decade. And whether you believe it has come crashing down on the beach or will just slap lazily against it, the fast and easy ride is over for now.

We are in a recession, and we’ll all be the better for it.

We’re supposed to be in the business of finding solutions... the business of increasing sales team motivation, getting customers to buy, and encouraging people to work harder, smarter, more productively. It's up to us to look around and find ways to deal with the tougher times, reasons to celebrate our business spirit... to electrify ourselves... and arm ourselves and our people to deal with the days ahead.

A Womb for Brilliant Ideas

Tougher times, like any crisis faced squarely, are healthy. Great ideas flourish in prosperous times, but they are born in tougher times. Creative solutions multiply in direct proportion to the difficulty of the problems. And when do we have more problems than when the economy is in the state we’re in now?

When the nation’s on a roll, the living gets easy. People do things from habit because no more is called for. We can make a living by just doing things well... not differently, not imaginatively... just well. But "just well" won't do when we're in an economic valley. And anyone who doubts that notion need simply read the business press to see the mental agility being exercised to deal with our current environment.

Tougher times get flabby minds back in shape... make thinkers out of people who haven’t been or haven't had to be.

Emotional Gratification

Look back for a moment. You've just closed a major new contract, you've hit new sales and profit highs. You look around and find that so has everyone else... including some people who couldn’t carry your briefcase. It happens all the time when the economy is good.

Now, move the setting forward to the present. You've just closed a new deal, hired some great new talent, had another great idea. You look around and hear the other guy saying, "The only thing standing between me and prosperity is two more rate cuts."

A warm glow of satisfaction sets in when you realize that you’re doing things that others say can’t be done; you've taken control while others are being controlled by their excuses; you are, in fact, one of those over-achievers who lead other people into the future.

And before you walk away, you could suggest to the guy next to you that since tight capital is on everyone's minds, he might want to create an incentive program to contract his receivables. Oh never mind, he probably wouldn't listen anyway.

The Men from the Boys, the Women from the Girls

There are some people who simply should not be in the role they currently occupy in the business they are in. In the good times, anyone with half a brain can make a living. A good old-fashioned slump makes life a little tougher for the professionals, but it makes it impossible for the amateurs. Which is a good thing because the amateurs will probably be happier in a place where the Federal Reserve Board doesn’t stand between them and prosperity.

Residual Benefits

When the tough times are over, we are all the better for the experience... just as the steel is stronger for having been through the fire. And one of the most important benefits is that we have been prepared for the next tough times. Oh, you know there’ll be more... and more... and more.

But the most enduring benefit of any economic convulsion is this. If we remember the extraordinary success we had when we applied heaping doses of imagination and creativity, and then continue to recognize the edge that intense, non-linear thinking gives us, we will carve out a special place for ourselves that lasts through the good and the bad.

Normal Isn’t Anymore

"When are we going to get back to normal?" How many times have you heard that line uttered lately? Well, my friend, we’re never getting back to normal. This is normal.

One crisis after another. Rapidly accelerating change. Recession, inflation, prosperity. New markets being born… others dying. The only constant on which we can rely is that when the tough times abate, they will be followed by another problem that some will view as disaster and others will see as a challenge.

How well we deal with these tough times is a matter of attitude. They give each of us an opportunity to reach deep down inside ourselves to fulfill our own true, full, human potential.

Recessions start and end with attitude. You know how to predict them. Recessions occur when enough people believe they will occur. And if you know how they start, then you know how they end... when enough people believe they will end.

We are marketers. And we now have a marketing task at hand. We have an idea to market to our clients, our associates, our employees, our peers, ourselves.

The recession is over.

motivation team building

motivation team building

Basics of Team Building

A team may be defined as a group of people who come to achieve a common purpose. The word team is derived from the use of oxens or bullocks shackled together to create a focused, shared force for transporting heavy materials. Although there is no magic formula to build team efforts effectively however there can be a concentrated effort as to how a team works and this in turn would yield you with greater capability to help you building great and effective teams.

Team building, a word used most frequently these days. Almost all corporate companies whether big or small have realized the need and importance of team building. Because of the different personality traits it is always important for the companies to build strategies that could enhance the productivity of the employees in a team. So many companies have now adopted many team building practices and efforts to create a more motivated team workforce and develop an atmosphere an atmosphere where people support each other as a team and to foster organizational learning. The task of building teams is not as easy; however there are many techniques, methods, principles which can be applied to create highly effective teams. One of the many methods of building effective team building based on the stages of group development viz., Tuckman model is explained below:

Stages of Group Development:

Dr. Bruce Tuckman in 1965 developed a model on the basis of stages in the group development called the Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing theory. The Tuckman’s model explains that as a group matures; establish relationships the leadership style also varies. In the initial stages the leadership style followed is directive in nature, as the relationship progresses the style changes to coaching, this leadership style would be followed by participative leadership where in both of them work together and the leader also participates in the activities delegated to the follower. As this progress the style changes to delegation.
However he has split the explanation into four stages and the features of each of the stage are explained:

Forming:

There is high dependence of the team on the leader. There would be little agreement in the team other than the instructions received from the leader. There will not be much clarity on the team’s objectives, purpose, role and the individual responsibilities. The leader in this stage usually follows directive approach and   has to answer many queries.

Storming:

The decisions do not come easily in a group. There would prevail a scenario for clashes as the group members make an attempt to establish relationship. There might be power struggles and the knowledge about the purpose and existence of the group increases. In this stage the team needs to be focused on its goals and the leader needs to make sure that they do not deviate and become distracted by relationships and emotional issues. There would be a requirement of compromise to enable progress.

Norming:

This is the stage where the team comes to terms and there is feature of agreement and consensus prevailing in the group. There is complete clarity of roles and responsibilities. In this stage the team can engage in fun activities. The team discusses the working style and there would be prevalence of complete respect for the team leader.

Performing:

The team at this stage is more strategically developed and there is complete knowledge within the team of what the team is doing. There is shared vision and at this stage the team can manage all its affairs without the interference of the team. There is a high degree of autonomy within the team and even if there are disputes, they would be resolved within the team positively. Here the leader merely delegates and merely oversees the work.

How does the leader motivate his/her subordinates by using motivation theory?

i want this to help in learning leadership

Motivation starts with you and the way you work around your employees. If you show you work hard than they will work hard with you. If you keep the atmospher postive than they are positive. If you say hello to them everyday than they will say hello back. Community Colleges offer great Managment courses on motivation and workplace. Most of these classes are online so you can work from home. Sorry at least my local community college has them. Try bookstore under selling since these people have to always motivate people to move there thought to purchase something. Best motivators are seller's because they have to sell you a dream or product you probably did not want. Remember to sell up (motivate up) and never sell down (motivate down).

motivation means
What's your motivation to stay awake doing homework and studying at night?

I have so much homework, and succeeding in school means more to me than anything. Unfortunately, I have to stay up late finishing up my homework and studying. What are some of your powerful motivations to help you stay awake doing homework at night?

For example, maybe you want to prove the people who have always looked down on you that you're capable of doing above the average in school, etc.?

Depends what kind of school you are in. I droped out of high school becauce I never had motivation to get anything done but now that im 20 I got my GED( which you can get at age 16 with parents consent) and im in a 2 year comunity collage for Culinary Arts. Once I graduate the 2 year program I will be making 35,000 a year starting. Unless you plan to go to a 4 year college u dont need a deploma just get a GED and you will be making at least as much money as I am. Jobs look at what degree you have. They don't look and see if you completed high school. When your in college that should be a huge motivation cause your paying for it and in the end you are going to make a great living. Hope this helps.
